Golf Training Aid Infomercials: Hype, Hoax or Help?
-
Over the last few years I’ve become a study of direct response TV. Not because I aspire to do the same – but rather, it gives me insights as to what golfers are looking for and what they are willing spend their money on.
Right now I’m working on two training devices (in the prototyping and patenting stage). One of these devices can surely benefit golfers – but that’s not my motivation for building it. My motivation is personal.
In short – there is no home gym unit that exists – which I am willing to put in my home. Simply because no current home gym unit on the market is conducive to my methods of exercise and fitness programming. So I’m building it myself – Once mine is done, I’ll explore the possibilities of bringing it to the public.
(The other unit is specifically for women – to be used in conjunction with one of my female specific programs – …more to tell, but not here.)
Getting back to the golf training aids on direct response TV…
I’m not here to judge or criticize (right now) – I think you are intelligent enough to know what you are seeing or hearing when watching these types of ‘presentations’ – but here’s what I will say…
Regardless of the integrity or validity of an infomercial type golf training device (and there are DOZENS of them) – none will ever come close to what the effects of a full-body, golf-specific stretching exercise program will do for your game, your body and your life.
You can try to “groove your swing” ’till you drop, you can try to “change the mechanics of your faulty swing” ’til you collapse, you can swing a weighted club ’til your back cramps up – BUT none of this will enhance to range of motion and recoverability of your muscles and joints – between holes and between rounds.
I’m not against buying new golf clubs or an intriguing new training device – BUT It makes no sense to do any of that until you are properly treating your body to the one thing it needs most: FLEXIBILITY
Don’t be one of the golfers who learns this the hard way. don’t wait til a tweak or a muscle twinge starts to turn into a nagging chronic cramp – that develops into an injury “that just happened out of the blue.” (physical therapists love golfers like this)
I’ve had the opportunity of working with many golfers in this situation.
In hindsight – if they could do it all over again – they would have started a proper stretching routine before they ever picked up a club.
The good thing is – It’s never too late to start a golf stretching program.
Be smart – be flexible,

I am just a golf novice, but a friend of mine is a golf pro and he whole heartedly supports using a regimened golf stretching routine as well. I guess that I might as well get started with it!
